You’re very welcome to access counselling without a referral. Many clients choose this option for its flexibility and simplicity. Full fee is payable on the day of your session.

If your GP has created a Mental Health Treatment Plan and provided a referral, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $87.25 per session (this fee will increase slightly each financial year). If you have reached the Medicare Safety Net threshold, you may be eligible for a higher rebate.

What Medicare covers: • Up to 10 counselling sessions per calendar year (1 January–31 December) • An initial 6 sessions, followed by a GP review • Up to 4 additional sessions if approved • Rebates are processed after each eligible session

To keep receiving rebates, please ensure you: • Have a current Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP referral • Attend your GP review after the first 6 sessions

Gentle reminders will be offered, though it remains the client’s responsibility to keep plans and referrals up to date.

To access Medicare rebates for eating‑disorder‑specific therapy, you’ll need a current Eating Disorder Plan (EDP） referral from your GP or psychiatrist.

Under the EDP pathway, you may be eligible for:

• An initial 10 sessions, followed by a GP review

• An additional 10 sessions after the review, if approved

• If further support is needed, up to 20 more sessions can be accessed with a psychiatrist review, subject to approval.

To continue receiving Medicare rebates, please ensure you:

• have a current EDP referral

• Attend your GP review

• Complete a psychiatrist review

We offer gentle reminders, though it remains the client’s responsibility to keep referrals and reviews up to date.

• A current WorkCover Medical Certificate is required from your GP/treating doctor

• Approval from your insurer or case manager confirming that psychological counselling is included in your claim

  Once your claim is approved, all sessions are billed directly to your insurer.

• NO referral required and NO out-of-pocket fee

• Sessions are funded under Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living

• Invoices are sent directly to your plan manager （if applicable)

• If you are self-managed, a receipt will be provided with the fee you paid and you can claim it back through NDIS.

• You need to obtain a specific DVA referral from your GP prior your appointment.

• There's NO out-of-pocket fee.

• If you have a White Card, please check with DVA if you’re eligible for counselling support before booking an appointment.

• Payment will be made directly to DVA/the relevant funding body.

Bupa Open Arms

We are a recognised service provider with Bupa Open Arms, please contact Open Arms regarding referral pathways.

Please note: You can claim a rebate through either Medicare or your private health fund — but you can’t claim both for the same appointment. Be aware that neither Medicare nor private health funds cover any “gap” fees, so you may have an out‑of‑pocket cost if your provider’s fee is higher than the rebate.
